Artisan Collective Timbuktu, Mali

Preserving Tuareg Culture Through Craftsmanship

Generations of Exceptional
Craftsmanship

Since its creation in 1997, Association Timidwa has established itself as a centre of artistic expression, bringing together more than 150 passionate artisans with various specializations in silversmithing, wood work and leather crafting. Timidwa draws its strength from collaboration, creativity, collective economics and a commitment to positive change within our communities.

Mission &Vision

Timidwa was born with a clear mission, to bring together individuals who share a common vision and creative goals. At the heart of our activities, we aspire to preserve and promote the rich culture of Tuareg artisans in Mali while actively contributing to the social and economic progress of our members and our regions.

Association Timidwa Founder and President

Mohamed El Maouloud Ag Hamid is an 7th generation silversmith whose family lineage is well known, in Timbuktu, for creating unique, high quality silver jewelry using traditional hand-crafted tools and methods. Although "born into the trade" Mohamed El Maouloud served in extensive apprenticeships under the watchful eyes and guidance of older and more experienced family members. Mohamed decided on the  name Timidwa for the association as he felt this was the best way to describe bringing artisans together to unify their efforts in safeguarding their culture and livelihood collaboratively. Mohamed represents the artisans of Timidwa as he attends exhibitions, conferences and festivals all over the world.
